Two of our four tours end in Ollantaytambo at 15:30, a 10-minute walk from the station, so you can take an afternoon train to Aguas Calientes without going back to Cusco. Book a departure from 16:36 onwards: the 16:36 Inca Rail or the 19:00 Peru Rail.

The two trains most travellers book
Sleeping in Ollantaytambo?
You arrive mid-afternoon, settle in calmly and take the train the next day.

Straight to the station, almost an hour to spare, and the valley from the train in afternoon light.
19:00 train · Peru Rail
Three hours ahead: walk the town, have dinner and be at the station by 18:30.
The two tours that end at 15:30
Does not visit Chinchero
Book · US$29Does not visit Pisac
Book · US$31Both cost US$1 less than the versions returning to Cusco because the return transfer is not included.
How the afternoon fits together
14:15 the guided visit to Ollantaytambo begins. 15:30 the tour ends in the town. About 10 minutes on foot, or a tuk-tuk, to the station. The 16:36 Inca Rail leaves almost an hour after the walk; the 19:00 Peru Rail, more than three. Trains to Aguas Calientes take roughly an hour and a half to two hours, so with a 16:36 train you are in Machu Picchu town for dinner.
Classic or VIP for the train day?
Choose the Classic (US$29) if you want Pisac and a 07:20 start. Choose the VIP (US$31) if Maras and Moray are on your list and you can be ready at 06:20. Neither sees Chinchero and Pisac both: the Classic drops Chinchero, the VIP drops Pisac.
If you stay in the valley instead
The same two tours work for a night in Ollantaytambo or Urubamba: you simply do not catch a train. Many travellers sleep in the valley, take the first train the next morning and avoid the early Cusco departure.
